68 Useful and Meaningful Christmas Stocking Stuffers
Does your family fill stockings for Christmas?
This was not a tradition that was part of my childhood Christmases. I’m not sure exactly why…I never did ask why my parents didn’t adopt it. Honestly, I think it was mainly due to the fact that my mom was the main present purchaser and also frugal budget keeper, so she felt that random stocking trinkets were just a waste of money.
Can’t say I completely disagree…
Nonetheless, now that I have a family of my own, stocking stuffers are indeed, part of our Christmas traditions and I’m so glad they are! It’s like…a present appetizer…something to wet the excitement before getting to dig into the big stuff! Not to mention it draws out the Christmas day festivities just a bit longer, as they always seem to go WAY too fast as it is. You better believe I wrap our stocking stuffers too for this reason exactly. Our kids love little trinkets, so they get almost as excited to unwrap little pocket treasures or their favorite chocolate treat as they do unwrapping the gifts under the tree… almost.
But, rather than scooping up a bunch of random cheap toys that will break after one use or get tossed in the trash the following day, I made it my Christmas mission to find items that didn’t feel like a waste of money, were useful/meaningful, small enough to fit into a stocking, priced appropriately for a stocking stuffer, and didn’t compromise on my commitment for clean ingredients and safe products. A little easier said than done…but not impossible!
I like to mix a little bit of practical, a good bit of fun, a sprinkle of something personal/meaningful and tad bit of sweet tooth pleasing treats when choosing our stuffers. One of my most favorite stocking gifts that I’ve used for 3 years and counting is a personalized coupon book. I make a keyring of printed coupons for each our kids and each are redeemable for various fun treats or activities like “eat dessert before dinner”, or “stay up 30 minutes past bedtime”. You can see in the above picture, my oldest daughter cashing in one of her coupons so she can veto my dinner plans for the night and choose something more pleasant to her palette. I was half offended, half amused at her quick thinking and zero apprehension to rub the coupon I MADE in my face. What’s wrong with vegetable soup?! Since I don’t believe in reinventing the wheel, especially during the holidays when your to-do list is already a mile and a half long, I’m sharing my most recent Christmas coupon printable for free right here (also linked below in the list)! Print them all, pick and choose the ones you think your kiddos will enjoy the most, or make your own personalized coupons using the blank templates I included!
Another favorite stocking present for both my husband and I and our kiddos are our journals. I started this a few years back with my oldest daughter and we’ve since started to incorporate one for my son who is now old enough to read and write (phonetically at least) independently. These are back-and-forth journals that are kept between my daughter and I and my husband and my son. This year, we may switch it up and give my son a journal for he and I and give my daughter one she can use with her dad. These have become a very special tradition and such a fun and meaningful way for us to connect one-on-one with each of our children. Although, once our third child becomes old enough to read and write, we’ll need to
take turns doing double journals!
This list has been several years in the making and something that I refer back to each Christmas season! And so…without further adieu…I give you my full list of Christmas stocking stuffer ideas that your whole family will love and look forward to year after year.
